Pain is the 176th chapter of the UQ Holder! manga.
Summary[]
With Kirie's power disabled and her save point destroyed, the UQ Holder springs into action to save the civilians and for the battle. After peculating that there is at least one person on the enemy's side that have the same power as Kirie, Evangeline orders the group to protect Kirie while Nikitis and Gengorou sense the one with mysterious power: Death Penalty, approaching them. To the group utmost horror, the one who leads the attack is none other than Ba'al, who comes back even stronger and with his powerful demon underlings. Despite their best effort, the group fail to rescue most of the civilians as the spaceport is destroyed, leaving nothing but a gigantic explosion behind.
Unable to remember what transpired further that point, Touta decides to search for more information regarding of what happened on that day. With the aid of Akim and his boss, Touta gets an ID card that also doubles as passport to access the library, while also learning in the process that the world of internet has long been destroyed.
Inside the library, Touta learns that the attack happened on July 15, 2088, resulting in a massive amount of casualty, though no members of UQ Holder were among list of dead people. Touta also learns that the mysterious virus that broke out during the same period was a Net Bug, a magic-based virus believed to be created by Zero Dawn Terrorist Group, with people being infected through any application or device connecting to internet, ultimately resulted in the infection of 78% of the Earth's population and the ban on the internet itself. Though Touta laments that he was unable to prevent the tragedy, he tries to reassure himself by searching for information regarding Mizore, Shinobu, and his quartet group of friends' survival, but is unable to find a clear answer for his worry.
At this time, Touta's pocket shines, revealing the Pactio Cards that he had made with his seven partners. Remembering Chamo's words that the visibility of the card's border can be used to determine the partner's survivability, Touta takes out Mizore and Shinobu's cards only to see that the borders are no longer visible, much to Touta's shock, despair, and sadness, as he realizes that he couldn't keep the promise he had made with them and can no longer see them again. As Touta drown his sorrow in rains, Akim arrive and cheers Touta up by treating him a meal, while also reveals that his family's life is going to be better after the recent raise he has gotten. Seeing his Akim's determination, Touta manages to calm down and re-analyze one important detail that he had missed: despite 43 years had passed and Ialda should've unleashed her ultimate magic Cosmo Entelecheia, the world still hasn't ended.
Regaining the hope that the remaining UQ Holder's members at the Fairy Hall might still be alive, Touta decides to return to Japan and reunite with them. While Touta is discussing with Akim about his trip plan at their worksite, they're attacked by a mysterious assailant who shoots at Touta, causing him to fall from the tower.
